We weren't just picking our top spot, but we did our gap year. We based the list on the Timeout Index, the annual survey aimed at asking 20,000 people about their city’s unique characteristics. The time-out index does not always follow the stock-standard standards for a historic town. The global editor and respondents instead analyzed how cities acted together to survive the pandemic.

This little Taiwanese town is famous for its community vibe. This city is an active mix of urban rainforest with temple ruins as well as ancient buildings. In the outdoor space many things are going on such as a nights market and riverside pubs which is also super affordable.
