01. The Blue Eye

The Blue Eye

"Blue Eye" is a water spring and natural phenomenon that occurs near the village of Mužine in the municipality of Finik in southern Albania. A popular tourist attraction, the clear blue water of the river can be seen from a depth of more than fifty meters. Divers have descended to fifty meters, but the true depth of the karst crater is still unclear.

This phenomenon is also known as the 'Springs of Bistricë' because it is the primary water source of the 25 km long Bistricë River, which ends in the Ionian Sea in the south of the country.

The source stands at a height of 152 m and has a discharge rate of 18400 L/s. The immediate area of 1.8 km² is a nature monument and characterized by oak and sycamore trees. In the summer of 2004, the source temporarily dried up. In the summer of 2017, part of the location burned down in a wildfire.

Skanderbeg Square is the main plaza in the heart of Tirana, Albania. The square is named after the Albanian national hero Djerjaj Kastrioti Skanderbeu. The total area is about 40,000 square meters.

The Skanderbeg Monument dominates the square. The town plan of Tirana was initially designed by Armando Brassini in 1925 and carried out by Florestano de Fausto in a Neo-Renaissance style with clear angular solutions and giant order fascias.

Gherardo Bossio updated the master plan in 1939 after the Italian invasion of Albania. Many buildings are located on the square, including the Tirana International Hotel, Palace of Culture, National Opera, National Library, National Bank, Ethem Bay Mosque, Clock Tower, City Hall, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Energy and National History Museum.
