This Asian ancient country has amazing food, incredible art and culture, and surprisingly friendly people. Tourists come from all over the world for a day visit vast historical sites, well-established spicy Thai food and beautiful beaches.
Bangkok
Thai capital Bangkok is an extremely lively city with almost 8 million residents. Bangkok is well recognized for its vibrant cityscape and its bustling streets. While it can be easy to forget when walking through Thailand's skyscraper, the center of the city's core lies in the water - many rivers spanning across the neighborhood and the vibrant Chao Pha River. For those who are in a shopping mood Bangkok offers numerous shopping centers, an over-luxurious Siam Paragon and a travel-inspired Terminal 21, among other attractions.
Koh Samui
Koh Samui offers much more than sunbathing. One of Thailand’s most popular holiday destinations, Koh Samui offers mountain forests, a stunning beach, and spectacular sunsets. Besides the spas, you can find many temples and spas here, like the famous Wat Phra Yi with its twelve meters tall Big Buddha. The neighboring islands of Koh Samui also offer many things that they can easily access by car. Koh Tao is a small island just offshore from Koh Samui and is an important destination to go snorkeling and diving in Thailand.
Krabi Town & Province
Kraba's laidback atmosphere is an ideal place to see and visit in Thailand. Located in southern Thailand it is just across the seafront from Phuket tourist center. Many people enter Krabi Town to explore other more famous tourist sites. But for those who remain there, they make friends and find treasure. The Tiger Cave temple is a landmark attraction and a cave built within the forests is an incredible site. Monks remain alive and worshipped around the beautiful site. Those who manage the climb can go to limestone towers.
More than 200 Island constitute Krabi Province, a large proportion now designated National Park territory. The region boasts some of the most beautiful beaches of Asia. Krabi Coast is very rugged and features vertical, steep limestone cliffs popular among climbers. Beautiful Railay Beach attracts climbers from everywhere, though its caves are also well known. Phi Island lies on limestone rocks with coral-filled waters with some of Thailand's best snorkels. In some places sailing kayaks or birdwatching can be done.
Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is Thailand's most northern-most city and an excellent place for exploring the Golden Triangle. A busy city providing a lot to everyone, Chiang Rai often becomes a good base for exploring its surroundings. In the day, most tourists visit the town and the neon lights shine during the night and souvenir shops and restaurants appear. It also has several museums showcasing local art, history, and culture. The park is an excellent spot to spend a peaceful day relaxing and attending an annual floral festival.
Ko Pha Ngan
Thailands fiveth-largest island, Ko Pha Ngan, has rolling hills, lush forests, and white beaches. Ko Pha Ngan has relatively low development costs and offers plenty of accommodation for outdoor enthusiasts. Divers are a popular activity in Ko Phan Ngan. The islands are located near the most popular dive sites in Thailand including Sail Rocks. Beach-goers can also have a choice because Ko Phan Ngan hosts a variety of beaches and stretches of tropical. Koph Ngan is famous for hosting legendary Full Moon parties. Ko Pha Ngan lies beside Ko Samui. The famed full moon party is held here. Every week on Full Moon, an enormous celebration attracted thousands of people takes place at Haad Rin beach. Music, dancing and fun is included. And if you are looking to enjoy a beautiful beach, then it is better to avoid the full moon dates. Sukhothai
A small village in northern Thailand Sukhothai is known to tourists due to ruined buildings in the nearby area. Sukhathia was the first capital of Thailand in the 13th century, and it is known today as Siami. Many temples, palaces and monuments of this age are accessible at Sukhothyi Historical Park. The parks are divided into several zones with several excavations in each of these areas. Wat Mahathat is an outstanding temple which has standing Buddha statues and lotus-shaped stupas.
Koh Phi
The island of Koh Phi is a picturesque and pristine beach on the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Koh Lan. The island is famous for its film "The Beach", which featured Leonardo Di Capri. The popular Maya bay beach in the island of Koo Phi Leh has rapidly become the ideal location for tourists in Southern Thailand. In eight years almost 500 visitors visited beaches every day. As we know, this is likely a hugely popular tourist destination with devastating consequences for the coral reef ecosystem. The situation was so bad that the Thai authorities had to act and the beach was therefore closed to the public.
Koh Lanta
The island of Koh Lantan is a beautiful place you can visit while in Thailand. A little over 70 kilometers from Krabi on the southern coast and in the Andaman Sea you can get there quickly on boats from Krabi or Phuket. If you'd like a Thai island with sweeping sandy beaches without getting crowded, this is the ideal choice. The farther you're off the harbour, the calmer you get. Mae Hong Son Province
Mae Hong Son is a remote province in Thailand. The town lies near Burma. Pai, most popular city of this region lies 145 km northwest of Chiang Mai. This is highly regarded by Thai people and tourists alike. There's not much to offer there. The locals are simply here for their unique hippie-boohemic atmosphere and for relaxation and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Those of us who like going out for dinner or drinks will find a number of choices available. Pai was renowned for distributing illegal drugs and facilitating illegal drug trafficking in the past.
It is a Thailand's lowest populated province in northwest. It is a good way to explore – to buy scooters in Chiang Mai usually for less than $10. Several sites can serve as ideal stops, such as tourism towns Pai described earlier or Thai towns Mae Rimm, Mae Taeng, Mae So. Along the way you can visit many temples, spend an elephant sanctuary, explore the epic Tham Lod caves. This provincial town is also a great place to sightseeing in Thailand with scenic mountain ranges and a slower pace than others in Thailand. It lies in North West Thailand, close to Myanmar. The fog usually covers the place with a mysterious atmosphere. Few visitors arrive in this area but those who come seek tranquility from nature and wild nature. The best means to reach this isolated paradise are to fly from Chiangmai. You can even get a Mini Bus. Any routes through mountain ranges can be hard and you'll want to plan ahead if the switchbacks will make you uncomfortable. When you reach Mae Hong Son, you will be captivated.
Trek in the northern mountains
Make the most of your Northern Thailand vacation for trekking and hiking! Is this a great location to do this kind of activity? Many tour firms offer hikes in varied lengths with varied difficulty in exploring mountain ranges and meeting ethnic groups in the region. You may go to Akha Karen (the tribe known for the long-necked giraffe women or Kahu villages) or maybe even stay at a nearby home. The Similan Islands
Similan Island lies north of Phuket, in the Andaman Ocean. The archipelago comprises 9 islands in its own right and consists of the Marine National Park Similan Islands. It's the most suitable place for divers in Thailand. It is especially crystalline and a rich source of fishes and coral species. The fastest way to get there is by boat to Phuket or Khao Lak. The tours include transfers into ports and lunch trips to different places and snorkels and of course you have the option to try real scuba diving in an air tank.
Kanchanaburi and the Bridge Over the River Kwai
Kanchanaburi lies 140 km southwest of Bangkok. Even if you never knew the name you probably heard of the bridge over Kwai one of Thailand s greatest tourist attractions. The monument represents the tragic past in the Second World War. In Kanchanaburi Japanese army soldiers enslaved thousands to create over 400 km of railway between Bangkok and Myanmar. In addition, there were over 16 000 fatalities during construction. Of the 688 Japanese military built bridges, it is the first steel bridge built to Thai standards.
Ko Yao Noi
Let's discuss our favourite island. I had so much luck finding the tiny paradise during my trip! It is slightly unknown compared to the rest of the island mentioned here. I have never heard anything like the story before planning an adventure to Thailand. This speedboat is a 30 minute drive from Phuket's main airport. It is the perfect place for relaxation during the holidays. It's a good beach! You can easily explore the island on scooters for discovering the beaches including Long Beach and Luild Beach.
Ao Nang / Railay
Ao Nang lies approximately 20 km away from Krabi. The nearest place is at Krabi Beach. In Ao Nang there's a long sandy coastline with clear turquoise waters. Several cafe-restaurants are located near the main street along the shoreline. It offers hotels to suit all budgets. Alongside swimming, there's a wide selection of leisure activities available including diving, kayak tours, snorkeling, sailing and cycling. In Ao Nang you can reach Railay, an extensive peninsula accessible only by longtail boats.
Railay or rilhh is a small peninsula in southeast Thailand which is only accessible via boats because the steep cliffs in which the water runs away from mainland access. This cliff attracts rock explorers of many nations but its location is also popular for tourists in Thailand because of its beautiful beaches and quiet relaxation. Nearly every piece of land built on the western and east coast has become residential apartments and new developments creep in behind the forests. However, there are no high-rise buildings and most construction is concealed by tree stumps or set into beautifully landscaped gardens.
Isan
Isan, a province in the Northeastern Thailand is hardly known among Thai tourists. However, it is an ideal destination if you're interested in going off-track. This park is considered a world-famous national park and has been deemed a UNESCO world heritage site. The 2100-square-kilometer landscape is ideal for trekking and contains many species, such as elephants, leopards and lions (somewhat scary) but also gibbons and birds.
Ratchaburi
Ratchaburi is a province in Thailand which makes it a great destination because of natural wonders and Damneon Saduak floating market. The area in Thailand sits west from Bangkok making it easy to travel on a day or overnight from the capital. The floating markets have a reputation for selling a variety of products in wooden boats. Visiting floating markets is a fun, touristy activity that can feel quite authentic. Another big attraction are hot springs of Bo Khlong and Khao Chung terrace-dwelling fountains. Several hundred million tourists come here each year to discover these magnificent mountains and caves.
Koh Phangan
This island in the Gulf of Thailand has a reputation for being one of the top destinations for visiting. The town is north of its famous rival, Koh Samui. Full Moon Party takes place on all nights every month, attracting adventure seekers and backpacking tourists to Haad Rin. The white beaches at the other side of the island, Hat Khouat and Hat Thian, are peaceful. Aside from the lunar celebrations each month the paradise has perfect weather and infinite natural beauty which does NOT end at the turquoise ocean floor. World-class diving can easily be booked here and you can get certified whenever you require.
Sukothai
Another quiet, thoughtful place with countless cultural attractions is Thailand. Sukothai has a UNESCO world heritage site and the Central countryside has dozens of important monuments. In 1238 and 1438 it became the city-headquarter of Siam – the first – and considered an important centre within Thai culture. The name signified the beginning of uplifting happiness and remained a great city of prosperity. Wat Mahatheth, the largest temple complex with ancient ruins, was once thought the centre of the universe. The place is one of the most photographed in the city and the Buddha sits behind collapsed columns.
Lopburi
Lopburi is an attractive tourist destination because it has the famous monkeys that are believed to bring luck. It is a new destination near Bangkok which is easy to reach via the city's streets. The Wild Monkey is very cute. Bring humor, and do not feel like you're gonna eat with you. Don't be mistaken when buying jewellery without planning on giving them to a monkey. Besides ancient buildings, Lopburi also houses magnificent ruins. Several vendors offer local products such as coconut jelly mushrooms as souvenirs. This place is really interesting & charming.
Lopburi is a historical town approximately 2 hours' drive from Bangkok. The town was notoriety for the rapidly expanding macaw colony encircling the town. They were built in a forgotten cinema but they are often found walking around the Prang Sam Yot temple. This is an interesting attraction, but be careful as these guys may get aggressive! Despite the monkeys and some Khmer temples, there are no other activities available in Lopburi. The majority of tourists only stop at the airport for the trip from Bangkok to the southern capital.
Koh Chang
Koh Chang Island has great hiking trails and pristine scenery. It is the biggest island located in East Cambodia near the coast. The Mu Ko Chung National Park offers challenging trails with stunning waterfalls. The coast and the small villages of Koh Chang attract backpackers. Divers and swimmers can enjoy clear waters and see animals at sea. Unfortunately, elephant rides are available, but not recommended. It's normal that these animals have no good health and nothing is visible. The only route into the island is via the ferry and it has become isolated.
Trang
Now for a beach trip! It can be a good thing for a person to visit Trang Province Island and Mountains and explore Trang Islands. Trang's beautiful surroundings are full of friendly faces and are famous for its incredible Thai cuisine. These provinces reside in South Thailand on the long peninsula that shares a border with Myanmar and Malaysia on the Andaman Sea. Guests can take a boat to and from all of the surrounding islands during the day. All have white beaches and warm water making it an easy escape. In Trang City, many festivals occur every year.
Chiang Saen
How can one visit a historic Thai city? Unlike many other cultural traditions, its visitors are naturally interested in its roots and it can most commonly be found around Chiang Saen. Chiang Saen is an isolated river town near Thailand's border with La. Here lies the notorious gold triangle between the countries. Unfortunately, the nickname is a product of an historic repute as a leading producer of opium. But don't think this could be harmful in any way. The smuggling of drugs in this town declined during the past few decades.
Phetchaburi
Phetchaburi must be included on all travelers' list of best cultural destinations of Thailand. It is among the first provinces in Malaysia if you come from Bangkok south. Among the sites of this area are many impressive temples. Among the sights in the area is Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Reserve, a once royal residence. This coastal town is incredibly old and close to Thailands greatest National Park. Kaang Krachan National Park has an enormous Lake with waterfalls as well as tons of wildlife.
Central Thailand
You'll be in Bangkok's capital, which lies in Central Thailand. Aside from Bangkok, it is worth a mention of the archaeological sites of Ayutthaya and the quiet city of Kanchanaburi is a good alternative to bustling Bangkok.
Enjoy the hustle-and-bustle of the Thai capital
Many people come here thinking Bangkok was way too chaotic, busy or anxious and escape to the islands quickly. It's very disappointing, as Bangkok is an incredible place to explore! The city offers a variety of activities and attractions, and the capital can be visited for several days at a time. Bangkoks Grand Palaces are an ideal place to rest. The palatial sites in Bangkok are known for being a central hub of the Siam kingdom. The complex includes several temple buildings including the throning palaces, the royal palaces and golden temples, which are now mostly accessible to visitors.
Relaxing riverside base for nature and history
Kanchanaburi can be the perfect place where one can unwind and get comfortable. It is only 2 hour drive from the city center. The city is famous for the railway which was built from 1943 to 1944 by Japan during the war. In this museum you can find out what made this railway famous: Death Railway. The train today provides enjoyable travel along the banks of Kwai despite the dark past. Kanchanaburi is a relaxed city with few travellers. Relax by the river, walk to the local food market or hire a car for a quiet walk along the countryside.
Oft-overlooked islands near Cambodia
Usually people visit Thailand's southern beaches, including the ones described hereafter. However, Thailand also has three islands in the center in the east of the country close to Cambodia. In some ways, Koh Chang may be out of sight. Koh Chang, the biggest island, receives part of resort tourism, while there is also a flourishing backpackers scene. Not all beaches are sandy and the island's large interior is mountainous and covered with jungle. This island is an incredibly quiet, perfect hiking location.
Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 and lies within Central Thailand's Chao Phraya Valley. The island is connected by three tributaries to the Gulf of Siam. King U Thong named it the capital. Ayutthaya has long been recognized as one of the world's most beautiful cities, and now the ruins are an important draw for tourists to Thailand. In its first year in Thai history Ayutthaya was a major tourist centre and was home to several palaces and more than 400 temples. The town prospered from the fourteenth until the 18th century. By the year 1800 the population had almost 1 million people. Ayutthaya became an important hub for trade and a link to the West and East.
Pattaya
The once quiet fishing village, Pattaya has become the closest holiday destination for Bangkokian travelers. While the majority come to the island to get out the hustle of the Thai capital and enjoy some sunshine there are many activities in the beachfront town. The Hat Sai Kawai (Diamond Beach) or Koh Samet beach are a wonderful location to visit – the area is full of colourful food shops, beach umbrellas and spectacular beachside resorts. Koh Larn (Coral island), known for its glass-bottom boat which offers stunning views on coral reefs, while Coh Larn island offers an excellent place to pursue an active lifestyle like parasailing.
Kao Sam Roi Yot National Park
The Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is home to Thailands most extensive fresh water lake with mangrove swamps, spectacular beaches, limestone caves and numerous jungle trails. There are so many things you can explore for a short weekend so plan to stay for a weekend or two to tick off some of your bucket lists. When an overnight stay is in the book, start with the northwest corner of the park in the vicinity Thung Sai Yot fresh water pond. There are several species of aquatic birds to be seen in addition – an impressive backdrop of blueish mountains. A small camping area with several cottages is nearby for people looking for somewhere to spend the night.
Thailand itinerary
If you have never been to Thailand before, then you might enjoy more popular routes that provide a good experience and will be very enjoyable. In the course of 1-week, you will explore the culture of Thailand: Kanchanaburu, Aiku thai, and the Khao Yai National Park. Because they have all been located close to each other, you can easily travel with them. If you're interested, you could also make an overnight cultural trip to northern Thailand from Chiang Mai. The Thai itinerary covers a 2- or 4-week period including the cultural north and the south islands. If planning for an upcoming trip, always go to the north before heading out.
Ko Samui
While Ko Samui is Thailand's third largest island a large number of tourists were unaware of it until two intrepid backpackers boarded a coconut boat. Soon word spreads that Ko Samui has beautiful beaches and has remained an important tourism destination throughout Asia. Ko Samui is more convenient for travelers to visit than other Thailand islands (besides Phuket) because there are also international flights available. Compared with its neighbouring islands, Phangan is famous for rolling "Full Moon Parties" at the beaches. Ko Samui has more developed development but still has some peaceful, isolated beaches.
Khao Yai National Park
Khao Yai National Park is situated in Sankamhaeng mountains and is Thailand's third largest park. Although its altitude was low in the region, it offered a variety of evergreen rainforest and billowed grasslands. A few falls lie inside trees at Khao Yai National Park. Haew Narok, the largest waterfall is about 265ft tall.This waterfall is worth visiting if you are planning on visiting. Although not quite as tall, Haew Suwat Waterfall offers a picturesque view of the lake that was set during a waterfall jump movie The Beach. The abundance of wild animals is among the most important reasons to visit Khao Yai. Khao Yai National Park in Isan is an easy-access wilderness, doable in a day trip from Bangkok. As well as housing cheeky macaques and muntjac deer, there's nowhere better in Southeast Asia to see wild elephants.
Northern Thailand
This region is higher in mountainous areas with cold temperatures and a calmer atmosphere. It has a misty and lush valley and is popular for trekking through the forest and visiting local mountain tribes. Chiang Mai's major cities offer extremely low rates as well as an easygoing atmosphere and are a good base for exploring. Besides mountains, there are also small mountain towns like Pai or Chao. A short distance northwest of Chiang Mai lies Maehong Son province, Thailand's least populace region. You can rent a scooter and walk the Mea Son loop through this quiet, backwater Thai countryside.
Chiang Mai
Largest city and cultural hub in north Thailand
Chiang Mai is the gateway into north Thailand, a city with over a million people but with a pleasant calm environment. If Bangkok was more complicated then coming to Chiang Mai, a relatively peaceful town, might just be a breath-taking experience. It's a city full of exciting activities that can easily be done, so you should probably stay for two to three nights in the city, however many people stay longer. Chiang Mai is also a good base from which you can explore nearby mountains as well.
Night markets are also a must-do in Chiang Mai, so pencil in time for the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar (one of Thailand's oldest and most well-known night bazaars). And no matter what, leave time for a visit to Elephant Nature Park for some rest and relaxation with Thailand's gentle giants.
Chiang Mai is a beautiful place with misty, dense mountains and is also an excellent destination to travel through Thailand. The best way to view the wilds of Chiang Mai is to visit the National Park Doi Inthanon. Chiang Mai hosts more active Buddhist temples than most other cities in Thailand.
Pai town
Hippie-like town in a picturesque valley
Pai town has 3000 residents about 3 hours from Chiang Mai. Once a hippie hangout, the town slowly evolved into a laid-back tourist town bursting with bars, tattoos, hostels and restaurants. Pai is a little bit Thai. It's an interesting point. Away from the beaten track certainly is not. Most businesses serve tourists. Generally speaking you just enjoy Pai for what it is. Pai was originally a quiet village in northern Thailand and is now a prosperous village which stretches along Mae Hong Son Loop between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. Pai is a popular destination among backpackers and tourists seeking to explore this picturesque region. In response to Pais increase in tourist arrival, a large tourism industry has emerged in the city with many guesthouses, restaurants, souvenir shops and restaurants. Pai's Wednesday Markets are wildly popular and attract people from other towns around the Pail Valley.
Chiang Dao
A charming town off the beaten path
Those cities that seem touristy may be better for those like Chiang Dao. It isn’t the greatest place of any, keeping the masses from rushing by. With its charming bungalows, green hilltops and tiny caves, it is a beautiful part of Thailand’s countryside. It makes it easy to stay in an authentic Thai town.
Mae Sariang
During Mae Hong Son province the visit to Mae Sariang may be the best idea. Unlike Pai, an intense tourist destination, Mae Sariang gives an insight into the local traditional way of life. It is an intersection of motorbike riders that completes the Mae Hong Son loop. Therefore expect some inexpensive hotels and small restaurants. The town has an adjacent area to Salween National Park, and the river Salween runs into it. Maesariang is surrounded by rolling mountain ranges and one of the best spots in Thailand for enjoying spectacular landscapes. Visit morning markets to experience real life.
Koh Tao
The island of Tao, located near the southeast hemisphere of the Thailand, was relatively uninhabited until the mid-1990s and has recently emerged for tourism. It's not surprising that these white sandy beaches, lush green forests and majestic granite boulder formations have made way for luxury vacation homes for a more sophisticated tourist destination if tourists come to discover the natural attractions. Koh Tao has been recognized by most as an excellent dive and snorkel destination. Many travelers visit Koh Tao to learn to dive or improve their scuba diving skills.
Khao Sok National Park
Khao Sok National Park offers some of the best landscapes in Thailand. The KhaoSok National Park dates back 160 million years and is considerably more ancient than the amazon forest. Located within Khao Sok National Park lies Cheow Lan, an amazingly turquoise lake populated by floating raft houses and colorful longboats. National parks are most notable for having an enormous virgin rainforest. Visitors who travel through forests will find cascading water falls, hidden caves and wild fruit fields. Other activities offered include ziplining and paddleboarding on the Sok River.
Ko Chang
Thailand has a second most important island, Ko Chang, off the southeast coast near Cambodia. Besides the long beach beaches, the island also offers all of the tourist attractions for tropical vacationers. On this island, you can also enjoy many different sports like snorkeling, kayaking and jungle trekking. White Sand Beach is regarded by tourists as being an ideal location to relax. The most pristine sandy beaches are situated at the northwestern edge of Ko Chang island. The central portion of the sandy shoreline is lined with resort and hotel rooms.
Phuket town
Phuket is renowned with beautiful beaches, excellent diving sites and a number of luxuries and is one of the most popular destinations in Thailand. Phuket is one of Southeast Thailand's largest islands and a bridge connects them to mainland China with two bridges. The beaches are among Phukets most interesting attractions with its white beaches, blue lagoons and water sports. Patong Beach offers many resort hotels and nightlife. Phang Nga Bay is an unforgettable spot to visit, with its magnificent caves, aqua grotto and limestone islands.
