01. Visiting Baxter State Park is one of the best things to do in New England in the fall

The Baxter State Park houses Maine highest Mountain Katahdin (369 feet) / 606 metres. If you are hiking, don't miss the popular Knife Edge hike, probably the best hiking path east of Mississippi.

This marks the end of Appalachian Trail about 900 kilometers away from the beginning of this road to Georgia. Baxter has a vast area surrounded with natural beauty and really represents New England in an exceptional way.

It is one of the finest destinations in this part of the country and the reasons for this are clear. You can also do other autumn activities, including camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and even rock climbing.

The Omni Mount Washington Resort is a historic luxury hotel which was constructed in 1902. This is a very popular structure across North America. The hotel lies near Mount Washington Cog Railway Station and offers excellent views on fall foliage.

Get pumpkin patches nearby! The massive revival celebrations at Carver, MA, are a recreation of England's sixteenth-century with jousts, marketplaces, massive turkey legs and numerous shows.

If you want a quiet fall vacation in New England you should visit Moosehead Creek. This is a relatively remote place on the east coast and offers a dark sky suitable for star-gazing. Burlington offers many breweries, farm-to-table restaurants, cafes, gallery art, and shops quite distinct from others. While in Burlington, make an excursion to the Champlain Lakes that separate New Jersey and Vermont. The views from the lake or from the hills are amazing, especially during autumn foliage.

22. The Topsfield Fair, Massachusetts

For most New England families, it is a traditional event every year. It was founded in 1818 and has become one of the longest-running agricultural fairs in the United States. From farms and entertainment parks to game shows to live entertainment and more unique exhibits, everyone will enjoy this site.

The old country feel, food and entertainment as well as the huge pumpkin are my favorites. Several years later it hosted an “weight-off” pumpkin competition for the highest-weight pumpkin. The winning pumpkins weigh 240 kilogrammes (140 kilograms in total). The fair is currently scheduled to take place in October as planned.

23. Apple Picking at Red Apple Farm

You can get your apples from our Red Apple Farm and enjoy weekend barbecues, hay rides, and a farm stand. Moreover there is a tree of apples planted to sprout every variety of apple the farms have.

24. Visit a Cranberry Bog in Massachusetts

Although cranberries are one of the most iconic autumn crops unlike apple or pumpkin harvesting they are rarely visible in person. Unless you have booked your tour with the Cape Cod Cranberry Producers' Association, the association's 300+ members perform wet harvesting, which creates beautiful, floating carpeted berries.

But its dry version is equally interesting. The farm was managed by 12-year-old Cape Cod Farmer Annie Walker and is open to the public five weekends a year in October and November. They even help harvest the crops.

Providence is an amazing little town in Rhode Island that you must go see in Autumn and the trees surrounding it are beautiful for leaf-peeping. Autumn temperatures make it a nice walk to visit Providences historic neighborhoods, stopping by the many shops along the way. Also take a stroll at Prospect Terrace Park to get a beautiful view of the city.

28. Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is an incredible spot to see brightly colored leaves set amongst Maine's rocky shores. Acadia National Park is the only national park in New England and one of few on the east coast . Plan to spend at least a few days here to see all the epic landscapes and autumn color throughout the park.

This time of year the Green Mountains belie their name and transform into a tapestry of russet, red, orange and yellow. Also a variety of dining options at the resort as well as access to the trails of the Green Mountain.
