Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is a national park in northwestern Namibia and one of the largest national parks in Africa. It was declared a game reserve in March 1907 by the Governor of German South West Africa, Friedrich von Lindequist, in Ordinance 88.

It was designated a Wildschutzgebiet in 1958, and was elevated to the status of a national park in 1967 by an Act of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa.

It covers an area of 22,270 km² and derives its name from the large Etosha Pan that almost completely covers the park. With an area of 4,760 km², the Etosha pan covers 23% of the total area of the national park.

The area is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds and reptiles, including endangered and threatened species such as the black rhino. The park is located in the Kunene region and shares borders with the Oceana, Oshikoto and Otjojondjupa regions.

Namib-Naukluft National Park

Namib-Noukluft Park is a national park in western Namibia, located between the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the edge of the Great Escarpment.

It encompasses parts of the Namib Desert, the Naukluft mountain range and the lagoon at Sandwich Harbour. The best-known area of the park and one of Namibia's main visitor attractions is Sossusvlei, a mud pan surrounded by dunes and Sesriem, a small canyon in Tsauchab. Gobabeb's Desert Research Center is located within the park.

Deadvlei

Deadvlei is a white clay pan located near the more famous salt pans of Sossusvli within the Namib-Noukluft Park in Namibia. Also spelled DeadVlei or Dead Vlei, its name means "dead marsh". Pan is also referred to as "Dooie Vlei" which is an Afrikaans name.

There are many references to the site on the Internet, with its name often mistranslated as "Valley of the Dead"; A vlei is not a valley.

Nor is the site a valley; The pan is a desiccated vlei. Dead Vlei is claimed to be surrounded by the world's highest sand dunes, 300-400 meters high, which rest on a sandstone terrace.

Spitzkoppe

The Spitzkoppe is a group of bald granite peaks or inselbergs located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib Desert of Namibia.

The granite is more than 120 million years old and the highest outcrop rises about 1,728 meters above sea level. The peaks stand out dramatically from the flat surrounding plains.

The highest peak is about 670 meters above the desert floor below. A smaller peak - Little Spitzkoppe - is located nearby at an altitude of 1,557 m. Other features span a range known as the Pontak Mountains.

Many examples of Bushmen artwork can be found painted on rocks in the Spitzkoppe area. The Spitzkoppe Mountains were also the filming location for the 2001: "Dawn of Man" sequence of a space odyssey.

NamibRand-Naturreservat

Namibrand Nature Reserve is a private nature reserve in southwestern Namibia in the Namib Desert. Bruckner, founded in 1984 by J.A, covers more than 215,000 hectares and has a 100 km border with the Namib-Naukluft National Park to the west and the Nubib Mountains to the east.

It is largely financially self-sustaining through low impact tourism fees. In 2012, the International Dark-Sky Association designated it as an International Dark-Sky Reserve.
